Unity in Action: Agitation at ICICI Bank Zonal Office, Kolkata
On 22th February 2025, a powerful demonstration of employee solidarity took place outside the ICICI Bank Zonal Office in Kolkata. The agitation was organized in collaboration with the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) and the All India Bank Employees Unity Forum, drawing support from across trade unions and banking professionals.
Approximately 200 individuals, including former ICICI Bank employees, union members, and supporters, gathered to protest against systemic injustices and arbitrary treatment faced by staff within the bank. A formal memorandum detailing these issues was submitted to the Zonal Human Resources (HR) team, who assured that the concerns would be escalated to the Head Office for necessary action.
The intensity of the protest had a direct operational impact. Hundreds of ICICI Bank employees working at the zonal office were prevented from entering the premises for nearly half a day, leading to a significant disruption in banking operations during the first half of business hours.
This event marked a major step in the growing movement for employee justice in the private banking sector. It showcased the strength of cross-union unity and sent a clear message to leadership: employees will no longer remain silent in the face of exploitation and injustice.
